Lebanon’s president names judge Nawaf Salam as PM-designate

Judge Nawaf Salam has been appointed to form the first government during President Joseph Aoun’s term, following parliamentary consultations in which he received 84 votes. Born on December 15, 1953, in Beirut into a well-known political family, Salam has a rich academic and professional background, including degrees in history, law, and political science from prestigious institutions such as Sorbonne and Harvard. Salam’s career spans law, academia, and international representation, including serving as Lebanon’s ambassador to the UN.
