Today, the Lebanese National Alliance (LNA) held an engaging webinar on the Zoom platform featuring Mr. Mohamad Chamseddine, Policy Research Specialist at Information International. The discussion focused on the current political confrontation surrounding Lebanon’s election law and its potential impact on the May 2026 parliamentary elections.
Mr. Chamseddine presented a series of thought-provoking and, at times, alarming projections about the direction Lebanon’s electoral landscape is heading. Among his key insights:
• Diaspora Voting: Lebanese abroad are unlikely to be able to vote from their countries of residence in 2026.
• Pre-Determined Seats: Out of 128 MPs, 94 are already expected to be secured, leaving a true contest for only 34 seats.
• Decline of Change MPs: The number of reform or “change” MPs is projected to drop to just four.
• Influence of Electoral Money: Financial influence will remain the decisive factor, particularly through purchasing plane tickets for diaspora voters.
• Shifts in Political Power: With the Sunni Future Movement dormant, the Lebanese Forces emerge as the only party capable of infiltrating the Shiite bloc.
• Government Stagnation: The Prime Minister’s role has not yet contributed to meaningful change.
• Education as the Foundation of Reform: True transformation in Lebanon, Chamseddine emphasized, must begin with education.
The session concluded with a call for deeper public engagement, transparency, and educational reform as essential pillars of any genuine national revival.
The Lebanese National Alliance thanks Mr. Chamseddine for his candid analysis and all participants for joining this critical conversation. Together, we continue to foster dialogue, awareness, and civic readiness ahead of Lebanon’s next electoral milestone.
